Colossians 4:18
" I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand. Remember my chains. Grace be with you."
I like the way Paul ended his letter in Colossians.
"Remember my chains..."
That was the legacy he wanted to leave behind.
Not fame, not glory, not even the title of " Best servant of the Lord..."
but chains (which to many represents bondages, no freedom)
To me, Paul wanted to leave behind "chains"
NOT because he wanted to state that being a Christian was tough and stressing, "no freedom"
but because he wanted to symbolise other stuff:
1. Humilty
- in other words, putting yourself to lower ranks, even if it means the lowest rank.
Paul did not choose to minister only to the King and royalties, but he wanted to reach out to the sinners, to the people not only in his country, but OUT OF HIS COUNTRY and even in jail.
Think about this, Paul could have easily (with God's strength) save an entire royal family and that family can set some law that everyone has to be christians, but then
PAUL DIDNT DO THAT.
he wanted to reach out to people from a more personal level.
thus, the chains come in.
how did those people in jail manage to receive Christ?!
because, Paul was there.
He placed himself in the shoes of the prisoners and ministered to them from a more personal basis.
Yes, he humbled himself to the dungeons state in order for souls to be saved.
2. Strength
- despite being bounded and persecuted, Paul was strong and continue to spread the gospal with all his might. He did not fear the chains of bondages, but was on fire for God.
No chain can hold us if we are on fire for God.
" Remember my chains..."
Yes, remember Paul's chains,
remember the chains that could not hold Paul from spreading the gospal
remember the chains that could not bind Paul from showing love
